How to Start Your Weight Loss Journey

Hi there friends,

So, here we are! Article two from me…this is an opportunity for me, as I’m currently using the Lunch Box Diet, to share my tips with you on getting started on your, what will be, successful weight loss journey.

Today, I want to share with you my thoughts on preparation – preparation for your weight loss journey. I don’t mean about buying the right foods for the diet, but more about exploring why you want to lose the weight and setting the focus for your journey.

So, I want you to explore the following, and then make the decision and then; in the words of NIKE; ‘Just do it!’ It really is as simple as that……

Top 5 tips to starting off on your journey

  • Keep a food diary for a week or fortnight: Look at the foods you’ve eaten over the period and….
  • Look at how you feel about those foods: How do they make you feel? Sick? Fat? Angry? Bloated? Remorseful?
  • Decide what foods you would like to eat to make you feel different?: What would you replace the bad foods in your life with? How does food that’s colourful, healthy, and tasty sound?
  • Think about you! What will being slimmer feel like?: Will you feel brighter? Happier? Able to walk faster and further? Able to keep up with your children? More confident?
  • What will being slimmer look like?: Will you be able to buy clothes in smaller sizes? Will you get into that summer beach outfit? Will you have a bigger smile on your face? Will you find the confidence to change something about the way you look? A new haircut, maybe?

Just remember one thing today: Virtually everything we do is to change the way we feel! That’s why a number of the pointers above talk about how you are feeling, and how you want to feel. It is only through making a decision and seeing it through, that we can change the way we feel.

If you’re on the first stage of your journey, have a go at the above – let me know how you get on….it worked for me…I really want it to work for you.

So long for now….take care….speak soon – please drop me a comment below to show me you’re here, it would mean a lot to me.

    Hi Lyn,
    thanks for sharing your experience.

I want to drop the kilos I gained since I came to live in London and since I quit smoking. I weighed 58 kilos and now I’m 64. I know it’s not too many but I also put a size on and that is what really bothers me :)

I already drop one since I started the LBD. I started exercising the first moment I quit smoking this january and that also helps me to deal with the cravings. However, what I’m having trouble with is with friday’s happy hour. The diet keeps me away from nibbling (it’s not that I don’t do it, it’s just that I’m not overdoing it now) but I am a heavy drinker and I know it can spoil everything but I can’t help it! Do you have any advice on this?

Also I find it difficult to keep the food diary, the first days I do allright but the next days I keep letting it for later…

I’ll be very glad and grateful to hear any advice from you.

    Thanks a lot,

    Irene

Thanks to you all for your comments.

Irene: It’s probably best if we email each other off-line, but for now I’d advise you to maybe think about taking smaller steps when out socialising. If you’re not ready to just stop having a drink when out with friends, then think maybe about swapping. So maybe, start off with one soft drink, one watered down drink (i.e. spritzer), and alternate like that?
You’ll be surprised at how quickly you get used to not drinking as much, and I found that quite quickly, I couldn’t drink as much as I once did.
Now, I only drink when out – and unless its a special occasion – I tend to drink 2 soft drinks to one alcoholic drink.
On the days I do find I’ve had too much, I’ve learned not to beat myself up about it. I look to the fact I made the decision to drink, so what’s the point about beating yourself up over it?? Just put in an extra hour at the gym or an extra run during the following week….get back on track as soon as you can.
If you want to chat further; email me…..hope this helps.
Re: the food diary – are you able to find 5 mins each day to just write it up? It doesn’t need to be too formal – what you’re doing is looking at patterns, and what you eat when and why. Again, email me – we can chat some more -
Good luck…looking forward to hearing from you soon
