How Do I Stay Motivated On A Diet – Free Diet Tips

Hi,

Here’s another guest post by Lyn who’s going to talking more about motivation on the diet…. Over to you Lyn….

Today, I wanted to talk to you about motivation!

I want us to look at two strands of motivation on your weight loss journeys. What makes you want to lose the weight? What motivates you to make that start? To improve your physical and emotional well being…..

- Have you seen a recent photo/video of yourself and decided you want/need to look different?
- Are you wanting to get more involved in sport and exercise with your children/family?
- Have you been medically advised to lose weight?

My motivation was a medical diagnosis. Being diagnosed with an under-active thyroid was my trigger; I decided on that same day to lose my excess weight!
Don’t get me wrong – it wasn’t as though I didn’t realised for many years beforehand that I was so overweight. No matter how I tried, I couldn’t find the right motivation!
And that’s how I’ve kept going for nine months now – the fact that my journey has been fuelled by the right motivating factor for me! I could have chosen any of the reasons above….

That takes me onto the second part of this blog….What keeps you motivated? So say you’re part way through your weight loss journey – and maybe you’ve hit a plateau – what keeps you going?
Can I be honest with you? I had thought that my motivation was always about my medical condition. But no! My motivation has completely shifted!
I’ve lost enough weight to bring my thyroid back into balance. At the same time, my cholesterol has dropped to a normal level, as has my blood glucose, as has my blood pressure……
Instead, those factors that now motivate me are: How I feel, how I look, my energy levels, a size 10 dress hanging on the back of my door – and the crazy idea that my trainer wants to enter me in a national gym awards competition!
Mind you, 9 months ago – I couldn’t walk up a flight of stairs. Now I can train intensively for 60-90 minutes four times a week!! So, maybe my trainer knows what he’s talking about!

Anyway, what I’m saying here is:

Think about what is going to act as your driver, what is it that helps you make that positive decision to make a start
Look at whether that motivating factor is going to keep you going, or is there something else that will keep you heading in the right direction.

I hope some or all of this makes sense, rings a bell…..has been helpful.

Please let me know….let me know what you think – what’s helped/helps you? Post a comment – looking forward to hearing from you!

Take care
Lyn
