It’s 15.25 and I’m sat writing my first blog post in the gym. There’s a reason for this which I’ll come onto a bit later…
At the moment I spend a lot of time at home, and for those of you who do it, you’ll know it definitely has its pros and cons. On the plus side I get to schedule my days as I wish, but on the negative side of things I get little interaction with the outside world as I currently live in between two areas, Bath and Bristol. To get into the middle of either takes about 20 minutes.
Now I’m planning on moving this year, but for the moment I use the gym as my time to take myself away from running my business and I get a lot of ideas when I’m exercising. The move from training 1-1 to online was a move I didn’t take lightly. The main reason was so I was able to help more people by working online. Since I made the move and concentrated online, I have impacted far more people than 1-1 in the gym environment.
Today my schedule didn’t go according to plan. Last night I felt very tired and got an early night and where I would normally get up at 8am, I lied in until around 10.30am. I had my breakfast and started working, but something just didn’t feel right… Mr Grumpy!

I was seriously uptight. You must have had those days where you feel like you got out of the wrong side of the bed. To top it all off, I didn’t have the food I wanted in the house to do my lunch box, so I ended up making a sandwich (at the moment for me this is a sin!), and I felt guilty for having it, which partly is a good thing of course, but didn’t help my mood.
I have my off days, and today was one of those, well up until now!
As the day went on, my tension levels just seemed to rise and rise and I knew something wasn’t right. The voice in my head was telling me to sack off exercise because maybe I was feeling ill. If I’m honest with myself, I’m fine, I probably don’t feel 100% but I’m certainly not sick.
This is where the ‘Reset’ comes in, my strategy for getting out of these annoying situations where you feel like you want to bang your head against a brick wall becuase you just don’t know why you’re not being productive or are in a bad mood – nothing triggered it, nobody was around me to frustrate me, just something! Have you ever been in a bad mood, or felt a bit grumpy and then had a cat nap and woken up in a completely different mood? It’s almost like someone flicked the reset switch on you and you feel fine!
How about when you’ve had an argument with your partner (strange, as I’m writing this on Valentines day and I’m single lol). You both shout and shout and shout, and then one of you decides to take a walk for half an hour. You both have time to think and then you return and that reset switch has been flicked again. Horrah! Now you maybe thinking ‘no Simon, we just keep on throwing stuff at each other!’, but you know what I mean, right?
Well, we need to catch ourselves in these moments and realise that we just need to flick that switch.
So today, as soon as I realised this and caught my self, instead of getting more frustrated, I just packed my gym bag, got in the car and came to the gym…
On the way, it got me thinking about this post and how there are so many ways we can ‘Reset’ and why it’s really important if you want to lose fat, get fit and reduce your stress, you really must have a few ‘Reset’ strategies under your belt.
You may be someone who finds that you need to ‘Reset’ more than most. For me, it’s probably a couple of times per week. Even if now you become aware of it, you can go to your list of strategies…
Here are my personal top 4 ways to reset and let’s make this post into a really useful one, I want you to tell me your number one way to ‘Reset’ or maybe you have a few that will be useful for everyone reading…
Reset Strategy 1 – Exercise
By far my top way to change my ‘state’ of mind. You flush your body from stress, release good hormones and after your shower, you’ll feel like a new person! Right now I’ve just finished my session and I completey ‘reset’. I can tell you now, I rarely write blog posts when I’m in a bad mood, I don’t feel the want to be creative. I’ve turned around my day and the rest of the day will be great!
Reset Strategy 2 – Cat Nap
Putting your head down, even if you can for 20 minutes is a great ‘Reset’ strategy. This is perfect on your lunch break and especially in the summer in a park, you can start your afternoon of work in a completely different frame of mind.
Reset Strategy 3 – Funny Movie
Laughter is the best remedy, so just by taking yourself to the cinema or ideally out of your current environment is ideal. So maybe go and see a friend and watch one of the classics like ‘Dumb and Dumber’. Ha, love that movie, especially when Jim Carrey lights his farts!
Reset Strategy 4 – Self Hypnosis
This is huge because listening to self hypnosis recordings can give you the relaxation of hours and hours of sleep in just a 45 minute session. The Sleep/Stress Transformer Deluxe audio as part of Weight Loss Mind Power For Life (which I co-developed with the excellent Harley Street NLP / Hypnotherapist Trevor Hoskisson) is a brilliant, brilliant reset session which I have used on more than one occasion. Also great to listen to before bed or whenever you’re feeling stressed!
So there you go, again, I want you to give me your ideas, so I can add them to my bank of ‘resets’ and for others to see, the more the better peeps!
So at the start of this post I mentioned that I was writing my first post in the gym (one of the trainers just shouted over and told me I type unusually fast lol) – well that’s because I think partly one of the reasons for my increase of tension this morning was becuase my work environment needs to change a little…
So I’ve decided that I’m now going to write some of my content posts after my gym sessions in the mornings. This is the time when I’m buzzing and I think it will reflect in the content and make it even better. We’ll see how it works.
Remember, just change a few things around in your life and you’ll notice some fantastic results. I’m always testing new things and you should too!
Let’s hear those reset strategies below….
